Little lingo

“As one of the major developmental tasks in early childhood, learning to communicate is key for children to interact with the persons in their world and to have their needs met. Few tasks in early childhood are as important as this one!” [ CITATION Goo13 \l 7177 ]

There is no greater gift than that of communication. It helps us to grow and learn as individuals and form meaningful relationships with those around us. Now imagine a world where communication wasn’t possible. Not because you couldn’t communicate, but because you were unable to understand others or be understood in return. Imagine how frustrating that would be. That is the life of a child in South Africa who cannot speak English. After living in Vietnam for 6 months, I have come to realise just how hard it can be if you can’t speak the local language. The simplest of tasks becomes nightmarishly difficult and can make you want to stop communication, or attempting to, all together.

After obtaining my TESOL certificate from the Australian International College of Language in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, I had the privilege of teaching English to children in Hanoi, Vietnam for 6 months. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and it is what lead me to the decision to bring back what I had learnt to South Africa and help those here who cannot speak English.

I will be offering 9-week courses that will run throughout the year at Buckets & Books. These courses are tailored to children aged 2 to 6 years and will assist them in learning in the classroom.
